Global Trend: YouBike System in Taiwan

As industry and human technology grow, people are burning more and more fossil fuels which causes a serious effect to Earth's environment. Greenhouse effect which is when greenhouse gases in a planet's atmosphere trap all the heat energy from the sun inside, or what we called global warming has been an important issue throughout the world. Many countries have been trying to reduce the amount of carbon dioxide (which is one of the greenhouse gases) released to the atmosphere.

In order to decrease the amount of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, Department of Transportation of Taipei City Government had came out with the solution by encouraging people to use bicycles as short-distance transit vehicles. By equipping a urban bike lane network with a bike station service (YouBike System), the government encourages citizens to use low-pollution and low-energy-consumption vehicles instead of motorcycles or cars.

The YouBike stations are located in many places. You can borrow the bike from any station and return it to any station(does not have to be the same one).

Before you rent a bike, you can register on the official website of YouBike, service center, Kiosk (automatic server), APP (Google Play & App Store) etc.

The price is not very expensive. For members, the first 30 minutes costs $5. From 30 minutes to 4 hours, the price is $10 for half an hour. From 4 to 8 hours, it costs $20 eveery 30 minutes. For more than 8 hours, each half an hour costs $40. (All the money are NTD)
